MART Gallery & Studio Assistant. 

MART currently has an opportunity for a Gallery & Studio assistant to join our organisation to assist in our Gallery & Studios with installing and invigilating our exhibition programme, event hires and artist studio maintenance.

The Role:

To be an assistant to the MART Gallery Directors and Operations Manager with exhibitions and studio management, based in our gallery in Rathmines and occasionally across our studio network to work on a set 10 Hour weekly contract with additional days/hours on a month by month basis depending on exhibitions / events in the gallery.  

HOURS: 10 hours a week  [ Additional hours may be available on a casual basis throughout the year depending on exhibition and venue hire schedule. ]

Fri-Sat: 1pm-6pm  {when exhibitions are scheduled} 

PAY: €13 an hour 

Start Date: Week of nov 28th

End Date: Dec 31st 2023

Duties and Responsibilities

Gallery / Event Hire Responsibilities

  • Hands on technical work with the installation and de-rig of exhibitions and events
  • Assisting in the admin, pre production, production and scheduling of events / space hire / markets of our galleries.
  • Assisting the Directors in some of the administration required for the planning and delivery of the MART exhibition programme.
  • Assistance at the opening previews of MART exhibitions
  • Invigilation of exhibitions and events
  • The assistant will also be called upon to complete general office duties such as answering the telephone, using the email system, liaising with staff and artists, printing exhibition documentation, use existing filing systems as appropriate.
  • Cleaning and Maintenance of the old fire station building and galleries, inside and outside.


  • Assisting with the opening and closing of the Gallery.
  • Providing excellent and pro-active customer service 
  • Having an understanding of current exhibitions and the artists involved
  • Providing visitors with information about the current exhibitions and also about the organisation and facilities, forthcoming exhibitions, events and activities, membership & sponsorship, and information about the local area.
  • Monitor visitor numbers as appropriate
  • Being aware of disability and access requirements
  • Assisting in basic cleaning and maintenance as required.

Studio Responsibilities;

  • Members: Welcoming new members, showcasing potential members
  • Maintenance: Upkeep / Maintenance / Cleaning / Painting of Studios & Facilities 

Desired Experience:

  • Worked in a gallery, museum, institution, theatre, art centre of similar 
  • Curatorial Experience or Visual Arts Training Background
  • Technical Experience in hanging exhibitions, events or shows.
  • Experience of working in the Arts.
  • Reliable, Responsible – comes with good references.
  • Admin experience in Google Drive / Word / Excel etc
  • Self Starter who works well under their own Initiative.
  • Digital/AV experience
  • Flexible hours on days, evenings and weekends
  • A good team player and an excellent timekeeper.
